GUERRERO SIGNED

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 2, 2010) – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of pitcher Julio Guerrero. He will begin his fifth season in the Atlantic League and first with the Ducks.
“Julio will be an excellent addition to our ballclub,” says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. “We are excited to see what he can do on the mound for us.”
Guerrero will begin his 12th season of professional baseball. The righty spent the 2009 season with the Camden Riversharks, and posted a 1-5 record with a 4.80 ERA while appearing in 63 games. Guerrero also pitched for Camden in 2008 after spending the 2006 and 2007 seasons with the Road Warriors.
The 29-year-old previously was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for seven years. His best season came in 2003, when he split time with the Hickory Crawdads and the Lynchburg Hillcats. Guerrero posted a 9-4 record with a 3.61 ERA in 34 games (three starts). The Dominican Republic native has a career record of 55-47 with a 4.21 ERA in 390 appearances (69 starts). Guerrero was originally signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Pirates in 1999.
