Eighth inning comeback lifts Bridgeport over Camden

(Bridgeport, Conn. – May 29, 2010) – The Bridgeport Bluefish picked up a huge win Saturday night over the Camden Riversharks 7-5 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Brandon Chaves began the third inning surge for the Bluefish with a one out single to center field. The red-hot Colin Roberson stepped up to the plate and collected a base knock of his own. Steve Moss followed with a double hugging the third base line, scoring Chaves and Roberson. With two down, Danny Putnam pulled the ball to right field for a double to bring home Moss.
The Riversharks did not let Bridgeport’s runs go unanswered, putting together a five-spot in the fourth. The ‘Sharks brought eight men to the plate in the frame to take the lead from the ‘Fish. Kyle Haines started the rally with a leadoff double and then following a single to right from Garrett Guzman, Richie Robnett drove a single to center to bring in Haines. Jason Botts’ double down the left field line scored Guzman, and then Robnett crossed the plate on a groundout. Raul Padron finished the offensive drive with a two run shot over the right field wall.
The ‘Fish tied the game in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly delivered by Luis Lopez to bring in Jimerson. Luis Rodriguez put the game winning run on the board with a solo shot over the left field wall in the eighth inning.
Kyle Jackson started the game for Bridgeport allowing five runs on six hits over five and two-thirds innings of work. Denny Stark (1-0) picked up the win after relieving Chris Rivera in the eighth inning, allowing only one hit, walked one and struck out two in one inning of work. Jorge Julio earned his fourth save of the season, tossing a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Camden starter Ben Davis threw the first five innings for the ‘Sharks, giving up four runs on ten hits, walking two and striking out a pair. Ryan McKeller (0-3) took the loss for the Riversharks after permitting two runs on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Moss had three hits for Bridgeport, including two doubles and two RBI. Putnam and Chaves each had two hits and picked up a double of their own.
Bridgeport and Camden will play the final game of the series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. Eric DuBose will start on the mound for the Bluefish against the Riversharks’ Sam Narron. Gates open at 1:05 p.m. and all fans will be treated to a pre-game autograph session, starting at 1:20 p.m. Following the game, all kids will have the opportunity to run the bases like the pros.
