(Central Islip, N.Y., May 28, 2010) –The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-2 on Friday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,174 at Suffolk County Sports Park.

Ray Navarrete’s solo homer over the left field wall off Crabs’ starter Kenny Rayborn broke a scoreless tie in the home fourth inning. The lead didn’t last long as Southern Maryland tied it up against Ducks’ starter Rick Bauer in the subsequent inning on an Octavio Martinez RBI single.

The Ducks fought back with another run in the top of the fifth when John Rodriguez’ bases loaded walk brought home Johnny Hernandez, who led off the frame with a double.

Long Island padded their lead in the home sixth as Dustan Mohr blasted his first home run of the season, giving the Flock a 3-1 lead, which they never relinquished.

Bauer (2-3) earned the victory, tossing six innings, allowing one run, while striking out six. Rayborn (2-3) suffered the loss, lasting six innings, surrendering five hits and three runs, with three strikeouts. Joe Esposito bridged the gap to Kane Davis, who picked up his sixth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

The Ducks continue their weekend series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Saturday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans will be treated to a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Getty. Jake Dittler gets the start for the Ducks against the Blue Crabs’ Jarrett Grube. Duck Tales … With a solo homer in the fourth inning, Ray Navarrete smoked his fourth dinger of the season. Ray now has four goners in his first six games. Navarrete had 25 long balls last season, which was second in the Atlantic League behind Blue Crabs’ center fielder Jeremy Owens…Dustan Mohr’s home run in the sixth was his first of the season. Mohr has 49 career major league home runs, which is the most on the Ducks’ current roster…In the seventh inning, Ducks’ reliever Joe Esposito made his 100th career minor league appearance. Esposito did it in style, firing one and one-third scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 2.53.
