BLUE CRABS HOSTING WORLD CUP SOCCER FAN FEST ON SAT. JUNE 12 thumbnail

(Waldorf, Md.):  The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will host a 2010 World Cup Soccer Fan Fest on Saturday, June 12 at Regency Furniture Stadium.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Civista Health Foundation, the presenting sponsor of the 2010 season of Blue Crabs baseball.

The Fan Fest will include the live television broadcast of the United States vs. England World Cup match beginning at 2:30 p.m., special guest appearances by current and former pro soccer players, and a specialty soccer memorabilia raffle.  There will also be mini-clinics and skill challenges for younger players on the field, face painting, and more.  Soccer fans are encouraged to buy their tickets ahead of time by visiting Crown Trophy in Waldorf, or by calling Civista at 301-609-4132.

The headline guest at the event will be A.J. DeLaGarza, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.  DeLaGarza, who is a Bryans Road, Maryland native, played his college soccer at the University of Maryland from 2005-2008.  DeLaGarza will be available to sign autographs for fans during the event.  Sponsor PNC Bank will also distribute a free giveaway to the first 500 fans in attendance.

The gates at Regency Furniture Stadium will open for this event at Noon, and admission is a five dollar donation to Civista per guest.  Children under five will be admitted free.  All fans are encouraged to show their team spirit by wearing their favorite soccer jersey.

“Once again, the multi-use capability of Regency Furniture Stadium will be on full display,” said Blue Crabs General Manager Chris Allen.  “We have a very versatile facility, and we look forward to hosting all our fans that enjoy soccer.  It should be a terrific match against between the U.S. and England.”

There are also sponsorship opportunities at three different price levels ($250, $500 and $1,000). Companies that participate in any of the sponsorships will get a marketing space provided for them on the concourse, and pre-event publicity and recognition via signage, as well as complimentary admissions.  The $1,000 sponsorship is limited to the first six companies.

For more information on this event, contact the Civista Health Foundation at 301-609-4132.  The Blue Crabs teamed up with the Civista Health Foundation as the team’s main charitable partner this season to help raise money and awareness for the county’s only non-profit hospital with several promotional events.  Details of all Blue Crabs/Civista activities are available at www.civista.org/foundation.htm.  The Civista Health Foundation works to enhance the hospital’s financial resources so it may provide excellent health care services to all members of the community.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs are a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and play at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland.  The 2010 season is presented by the Civista Health Foundation.  The franchise is in its third season, coming off the team’s first playoff appearance and Liberty Division Title in 2009.  Please call 301-638-9788 or visit www.somdbluecrabs.com for more information and to save your seat at the ballpark today!
