Pats Beat Bears, 8-6

Newark, NJ – The Newark Bears fell to the Somerset Patriots 8-6 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark, NJ.
With Rob Mackowiak and Carl Everett on base, Salomon Manriquez crushed his fifth home run of the season to give Newark the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Somerset answered in the fourth with a three run homer off the bat of shortstop Anthony Granato that cleared the foul pole yet could have been called either way.
Newark made a run at the lead gathering two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Patriots.
Somerset’s Tip Fairchild notched his fourth win of the season after pitching for six innings, allowing eleven hits, four earned runs and striking out five Bears. Newark’s Kyle Kobernus recorded the loss.
