Ducks Crush Bears, 11-5

Newark, NJ – The Newark Bears were defeated by the Long Island Ducks 11-5 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark, NJ.
Long Island started strong with eight runs in the first inning after a series of wild pitches and walked batters. They added another two runs in the second after a two run homer off the bat of infielder Victor Rodriguez. In his first day in a Duck’s uniform, Alberto Castillo hit a homerun in the ninth inning to secure the win for Long Island.
The Bears gathered five runs, the first a home run off the bat of Charlton Jimerson, his eighth this season. Jacque Jones crushed a home run in the third and hit a two run single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jimerson and Jones each put two runs on the board for Newark.
Julio Manon notched his fourth win of the season after pitching for five innings, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. Newark’s newly signed Sean Tracey took the loss.
The loss brings Newark’s record to 34-34 and Long Island’s to 36-31.
The Bears will face the Ducks on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6:05pm at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Wednesday evening will be Lady’s Night at the Den, featuring Danielle Staub of BRAVO TV’s Real Housewives of New Jersey.
