Bridgewater, NJ – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 10-6 in front of 5,182 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening. Blue Crabs right fielder John Ramistella and left fielder James Shanks each had two home runs in the game.

Southern Maryland took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a solo homerun to left field by Ramistella (6).

The Patriots answered in the bottom of the third inning.  Left fielder Joe Burke singled, catcher Travis Anderson walked, shortstop Anthony Granato walked, and right fielder Mike Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to score Burke.  First baseman Josh Pressley then walked, designated hitter Matt Hagen was hit by a pitch to score Anderson, and third baseman Jeff Nettles singled to score Granato and Pressley.  Burke capped off the rally with an RBI single to score Hagen for the 5-1 lead.

The Blue Crabs added a run in the top of the fourth inning after a solo homerun by Shanks (9) to cut the lead to 5-2.

Southern Maryland scored in the top of the fifth inning after third baseman Chuck Jeroloman walked, Ramistella walked, second baseman Mike Just walked, and shortstop Travis Garcia doubled to clear the bases and tie the game.  Shanks (10) followed with a two run homerun to make the score 7-5.

Somerset cut the lead to 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning after Anderson hit a solo homerun (3) to left center field.

Southern Maryland added to their lead in the top of the eighth inning after designated hitter Jermy Acey doubled and Ramistella (7) followed with a homerun to make the score 9-6.

The Blue Crabs added a run in the top of the ninth inning after a solo homerun by center fielder Jeremy Owens (14).

Southern Maryland reliever Byron Batson (2-2) picked up the win after pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.  Patriots reliever Scott Van Es (0-1) got the loss after surrendering three earned runs on three hits and two walks in 0.2 innings pitched.

The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday, July 3rd with a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
