Revs Invite Rose and Olsen To Work Out
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 26, 2009
York, PA - The York Revolution has invited P.J. Rose, son of the all-time major league hits leader, Pete Rose, to work out with the club. He is expected to be activated in the coming days.
“He’s a guy I think can help the ball club,” said Manager Chris Hoiles. “He’s a proven hitter who can improve our offense and lead this team. He’s hit well in this league and everywhere else so we’re glad to have him.”
Hoiles and Rose have known each other on and off the field since their days in the Orioles system.
Rose joins the Revs for his fifth consecutive season in the Atlantic League, where he is a career .297 hitter. That includes a standout 2007 campaign with the Long Island Ducks when he batted .342 which ranked fourth in the league. He also finished second with 155 hits that season, and fourth with 95 RBI. Last year, Rose batted .289, while pounding 15 homers and driving in 95 for the second consecutive year with the Ducks. He has also suited up for the Bridgeport Bluefish and the Newark Bears in the Atlantic League. Now in his 21st professional season, Rose reached the major leagues with his hometown Cincinnati Reds in 1997.
Right-handed pitcher Jason Olson has also been invited to work out with the club, and could also be activated in the coming days. Perhaps the most accomplished reliever in the Revs’ brief history, Olson has appeared in a club-record 92 games over the course of two seasons, and is York’s all-time leader with nine relief victories. He posted a 3.41 ERA in 50 games last season for the second half Freedom Division champs. A fan-favorite in York, Olson was also named last year’s Community Outreach Player of the Year.
