Bears Get By Fish, 5-4

Newark, NJ – The Newark Bears defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-4 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Thursday night.
Bridgeport’s Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a two run homer in the second inning, but the Bears overcame the early deficit off the bat of Charlton Jimmerson. Jimmerson’s two-run homer in the fifth secured the win for Newark.
Starter Jose Garcia pitched for an impressive seven innings striking out six Bluefish and only walking two. Armando Benitez notched his fifth save of the season, with a perfect ninth inning.
The win improves Newark’s record to 31-25 and keeps them in second place in the Freedom Division.
The Bears face Bridgeport tomorrow at the Den at 6:05pm, the second game of a five game series. Tickets are still available for tomorrow’s game by calling 1-888-85-BEARS or by visiting www.newarkbears.com.
