Crabs Take on From Pats

Bridgewater, NJ – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs avoided the sweep by defeating the Somerset Patriots 6-1 in front of 6,042 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a solo homerun by designated hitter Jeff Nettles (4).
The Blue Crabs answered with four runs in the top of the third inning. Second baseman Mike Just singled, right fielder John Ramistella walked, and left fielder James Shanks doubled to score Just and Ramistella. Shortstop Travis Garcia followed with a two run homerun (11) for the 4-1 advantage.
Southern Maryland added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Shanks doubled and scored on an RBI double by designated hitter Patrick Osborn to make the score 5-1.
The Blue Crabs made it 6-1 in the top of the eighth inning after center fielder Jeremy Owens tripled and scored on an RBI single by catcher Lance Burkhart.
Blue Crabs starter Kenny Baugh (4-3) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on five hits in six innings pitched. Patriots starter Brian Adams (7-3) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in five innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, July 2nd when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 705 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The game is Strikeout Cancer Night presented by Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
