Late Bluefish rally not enough as Barnstormers take game two

(Bridgeport, CT – June 10, 2009) – The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers in the second game of a three-game series on Wednesday 4-3 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Bluefish rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning, but fell just short to the Barnstormers in a hard fought three hour and twenty-seven minute contest. Luis Lopez and Brandon Sing led off the frame with back-to-back singles to left. They then advanced to second and third on a groundout by Ryan Radmanovich. Jesse Hoorelbeke picked up an RBI by reaching on an error by the third basemen Aaron Herr, allowing Lopez to score. Luis Rodriguez came delivered a clutch hit later in the inning by roping a two-run double, scoring Sing and pinch runner Todd Davidson to tie the game.
Reliever Matt Pike held off the initial threat from the Barnstormers in the ninth, but unable to repeat performance as the Barnstormers loaded the bases in the top of the tenth with no out. Michael Campbell drove in the winning run with an RBI single to score Herr.
Lopez provided the offensive presence for the Bluefish, reaching base four times. The third basemen proved to be the only multi-hit player for the ‘Fish and also drew two walks. Rodriguez finished the day 1-for-4 knocking in two RBI in the bottom of the eighth.
Bluefish starter Gary Knotts pitched well allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out eight through seven innings of work. Pike (1-3) tallied the loss as Barnstormer reliever Ryan Cullen (3-2) got the win.
The Bluefish play the rubber game tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Dan Reichert will be on the mound for the Bluefish, and will be opposed by Barnstormers starter Ben Fritz.
