Crabs Split Doubleheader against Pats

By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 11, 2009

Crabs Split Doubleheader against Pats thumbnail

Waldorf, MD – The Blue Crabs played a doubleheader Wednesday night against the Somerset Patriots. Both teams came into the day leading their respective divisions.

In game one, a makeup from Tuesday’s rain out, the Blue Crabs jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the first with RBI hits from Patrick Osborn and Travis Garcia.

In the fourth inning, John Ramistella broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single that scored James Shanks. Shanks added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. After leading off the inning with a triple, Shanks scored on a Mike Just single.

A two-run lead was more than enough for closer Jim Ed Warden who pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his 13th save of the season.

Joe Gannon improved to 4-5 on the year with the win, allowing one earned run on five hits in five innings of work.

Kip Bouknight fell to 3-3 on the season. Bouknight gave up three runs on nine hits in four innings of work.

In game two, Travis Garcia hit a homerun to put the Blue Crabs up 1-0, but that was all of the offense that Southern Maryland could put together.

The Patriots took the lead in the third with two separate hits scoring a run each. In the fifth inning, Jeff Nettles hit a two-run homerun to add insurance as the rain approached.

In the top of the sixth, the rain came heavy and secured a 4-1 win for the Patriots.

Brian Adams improved to 6-2 for the Patriots with the win.

Kenny Rayborn fell to 3-3 on the year with the loss.

The rubber match is scheduled for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Kenny Baugh (2-2, 5.75) has the mound for the Blue Crabs and will face Somerset’s Jared Gothreaux (2-5, 6.15), also a righty.
