Bears Down York, 2-1

Newark, NJ – The Newark Bears defeated the York Revolution 2-1 in the first of a three game series at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Newark’s Jay Gibbons crushed a home run in the second inning to put Newark on the board, and newly signed Jacque Jones’ RBI single drove in Michael Sandoval for the Bears second run. York’s Matt Esquival put the Rev’s on the board in the fourth inning, driven home by right fielder Jason Aspito’s run scoring single.
Newark’s Shawn Chacon pitched a very impressive 7.1 innings to record his third win this season. Chacon allowed only one earned run and struck out two. Armando Benitez took the save for Newark, closing out the seventh inning and completing the game with back to back strikeouts.
The win keeps Newark in second place in the Freedom Division with a 23-20 record.
