By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 4, 2009
Bridgeport, CT – Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that infielder Enohel Polanco has been acquired from the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for future considerations. Enohel joins the Bluefish after appearing in eleven Atlantic League games this season, seven with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and four with the Newark Bears. Polanco has hit a combined .382 in 11 games in 21 bats so far this year.
“Enohel adds needed depth to our infield and brings a productive bat to the lineup,” says Bluefish manager Tommy John. “He is a veteran of the Atlantic League and we are happy he can bring experience to the club.”
Polanco is currently in his seventh season in the Atlantic League and 16th of professional baseball. Last year in 22 games with Southern Maryland, he compiled a .289 batting average with 10 runs scored and five RBI. Prior to 2008, the 34-year-old spent seven seasons in the Mets, Cubs, Marlins, Indians and Rockies systems. His best season came in 1997, when he played for the Binghamton Mets (AA, Mets) of the Eastern League. The shortstop hit .300 and had a slugging percentage of .414, while scoring 34 runs. Polanco reached his highest level of affiliated ball in 2000, appearing in nine games with Calgary (AAA, Marlins) of the Pacific Coast League and in six games with Buffalo (AAA, Indians) of the International League.
