Pats Rally For 12-10 Win

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 13-10 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night.
Lancaster took the lead in the top of the first inning after second baseman Danny Bravo singled, center fielder Michael Woods singled, and third baseman Aaron Herr (3) hit a three run homerun to make the score 3-0.
Somerset scored in the bottom of the first inning after first baseman Josh Pressley walked and scored on an RBI double by second baseman Matt Hagen to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Barnstormers added to their lead in the top of the third inning. Bravo doubled, Woods walked, and Herr tripled to clear the bases and make the score 5-1.
The Patriots rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pressley walked, Hagen reached on a fielder’s choice, designated hitter Jeff Nettles walked, and catcher Travis Anderson double to score Pressley and Hagen. Third baseman Teuris Olivares then singled to score Nettles, left fielder Elliott Ayala walked, and center fielder Sean Smith walked to force home Anderson to tie the game 5-5.
Lancaster scored three in the top of the fifth inning after first baseman Bryan Sabatella singled and Bravo doubled to drive him home. Herr (4) then hit his second homerun of the game to make the score 8-5.
Somerset added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after Hagen reached on a fielder’s choice and Anderson singled to drive him home. Anderson then reached home on a pair of Lancaster throwing errors to trim the lead to 8-7.
The Patriots took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after shortstop Anthony Granato walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI singled by Smith. Pressley then walked, Hagen doubled to plate Smith, and Nettles reached on an error that scored Pressley and Hagen. Anderson followed with a double to score Nettles for the 12-8 advantage.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ayala singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Smith for a 13-8 lead.
Lancaster cut the lead in the top of the ninth inning after left fielder David Housel singled, shortstop Lloyd Turner doubled, pinch hitter Amadeo Zazueta hit into a fielder’s choice to score Housel, and Bravo grounded out to third to score Turner for the 13-10 final.
Patriots relief pitcher Tip Fairchild (2-1) picked up the win after two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two strikeouts in three innings pitched. Barnstormers reliever Eric Junge (0-1) got the loss after surrendering two earned runs on three hits in an inning pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game on Thursday, June 4th against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
