Camden, NJ – Brian Lawrence (4-3) out-dueled Newark Bears’ pitcher Shawn Chacon (2-2) in the finale of a three game series, in front of a sellout crowd at Campbell’s Field this afternoon. Lawrence pitched seven shutout innings, scattering four hits, while striking out five, en route to a 1-0 win. Closer Tracy Thorpe locked down the final two innings for Camden, notching his 7th save of the season. Chacon was handed the loss, despite pitching a complete game, allowing only one run, and 4 hits. With the outcome, both the Riversharks and Bears’ records stand at 20-18.

After four innings of scoreless action, the Riversharks finally put up the first run of the game in the fifth. Vito Chiaravolloti and Brian Finegan drew walks, and catcher Frederick Torres then stepped to the plate and laced a single to center field, scoring Chiaravolloti and giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

The 8th and 9th innings were put on the shoulders of closer Tracy Thorpe, who retired six of the eight batters he faced, sealing the 1-0 victory for the Riversharks.

Next up, the Riversharks will be on the road for a four game series with the Lancaster Barnstormers. Right-handed pitcher Nate Bump (5-2, 2.01 ERA) will take the mound for the Sharks in the first game of the series. He will be opposed by Lancaster lefty Eric Ackerman (2-2). The next home game for the Riversharks will be on Friday, June 12th, at 7:05pm, when the Somerset Patriots come to town. Limited seating is still available for the game.
