Crabs Win Rain Shortened Affair

By on June 4, 2009

Waldorf, MD – The Blue Crabs closed out the four-game series and the home stand with the York Revolution Wednesday night. Coming into the game, the Blue Crabs were 2-4 in the home stand entering the game, with both wins coming against York.

Matt Padgett scored on an RBI single from Jason Aspito in the top of the first to give York a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Crabs loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning with no outs. However, a strikeout, fielder’s choice at home plate and a groundout cancelled any chance of the Blue Crabs scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth inning with severe weather closing in, the Blue Crabs tied the game with a RBI single by Eric Crozier to score John Ramistella from second base.

As the rain started to come down heavy in the bottom of the sixth, Travis Garcia had a two strike single to center field. Jeremy Owens then stepped up. After two fouled bunt attempts trying to move Garcia into scoring position, he was forced to swing to avoid a strikeout by foul bunt attempt.

On the next pitch, the team captain ripped a line-drive shot over the left-centerfield wall to give the Blue Crabs a 3-1 lead.

York (11-27) failed to score in the top of the seventh inning and the game went into a rain delay. After an hour, the game was called, giving the Blue Crabs (24-15) the win.

Blue Crabs starter Joe Gannon picked up the win, pitching seven innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits.

Daryl Harang picks up the loss for York with six innings of work, giving up three earned runs on nine hits.

With the win, coupled with Long Island’s 3-2 loss on Wednesday to Bridgeport, the Blue Crabs lead the Atlantic League’s Liberty Divison by three games.

The Blue Crabs will take to the road tomorrow with game one of a four game series at Newark. Kenny Rayborn (3-1, 1.90 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Blue Crabs against Newark’s Aaron Fultz (1-1, 9.24 ERA).
