By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 3, 2009
Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Long Island Ducks in game two of their three-game set on Tuesday 3-2 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
After a hard fought battle between the two cross-sound rivals, the Ducks came away victorious in 11 innings. Long Island first baseman Victor Rodriguez began the frame with a leadoff double and later advanced to third base on an Estee Harris fly ball. John Pachot turned out to be the hero for the Flock, as he plated Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly to give Long Island the lead. Bill Simas shut the door on the Bluefish in the bottom half of the inning with a perfect frame to secure the win.
Bluefish starter Corey Lee excelled in his first Ferry Cup Series start of the year, allowing only two runs on nine hits, while striking out six over eight innings of work. Casey Hoorelbeke added two shutout innings of relief to keep the game within reach, before Matt Pike (1-2) suffered the hard-fought loss in 11th.
Rayner Bautista proved to be the offensive star for the Bluefish by collecting two hits and scoring a run.
Jason Norderum (1-1) picked up the win for the Ducks by lasting two innings and allowing only two walks, while striking out two.
The Bluefish and Ducks play the final game of their three-game series tomorrow during a 10:35 a.m. matinee.
