By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 2, 2009
Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Long Island Ducks in the first contest of a three-game series on Monday 9-1 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Long Island blew the game wide open in the seventh, scoring six runs. The go-ahead run came on a sacrifice fly by Alex Prieto, plating Estee Harris, while Matt Cavagnaro followed with an RBI triple. The Ducks would tack on two more runs before knocking out starter Kyle Jackson. Jackson (4-3) allowed six runs on eight hits, giving up one walk and striking out three over six and two-thirds innings of work. Reliever Franklin Perez came in for Jackson but faired no better, allowing a two-run home run to Ray Navarrete on the first pitch he threw.
Designated hitter Jay Caligiuri drove in the lone run for the Bluefish with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at one. Caligiuri finished the night 2-for-4 and now has seven hits in as many games. Newly acquired Rayner Bautista collected a hit in his first appearance with the Bluefish.
Ducks starter Julio Manon (1-1) went eight innings allowing only one run while scattering five hits with four walks and striking out five.
