Sharks Get the Bump They Need, Win 1-0 thumbnail

Camden, NJ – The Camden Riversharks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 1-0 tonight, behind an absolute gem of a pitching performance by starter Nate Bump (5-2). Bump pitched 8.1 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits, and 1 walk, while striking out 3 batters. He also induced 19 ground outs throughout the course of the game. Lancaster’s Eric Ackerman (2-2) was charged with the loss, despite a strong performance of his own. He pitched 8 innings and allowed only 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 2 batters. The complete game took only 1 hour and 55 minutes. With the win, the Riversharks season record moves to 17-17, as does Lancaster’s.

The game cruised through six scoreless innings, before the Riversharks finally broke the tie in the seventh inning, and took a one run lead. Left fielder Wayne Lydon started the inning with a leadoff double, and then scored when newcomer Bryant Nelson singled to right field, picking up his first RBI as a member of the team. The run would be the only score of the night.

With a one run lead in the 9th inning, Riversharks manager Joe Ferguson decided to bring in closer Tracy Thorpe to close the door on the Barnstormers. Thrope retired both batters that he faced, and picked up his 6th save of the season.

The Riversharks and the Barnstormers will wrap up their three game series tomorrow at 1:05 pm at Campbell’s Field. Right-handed pitcher Dewon Brazelton (2-0, 2.80), will take the mound for the Riversharks, and he be opposed by Lancaster’s Ben Fritz (1-1, 5.23), also a right-handed pitcher. Limited seating is still available. For more information, or to purchase tickets visit www.riversharks.com.
