(Central Islip, N.Y., May 29, 2009) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 6-2 on Friday night at Citibank Park.

The Revolution struck first with single runs in both the second and third innings.  Matt Esquivel’s dinger to left field off Ducks’ starter B.J. LaMura (2-3) in the second frame got the Revs on the board.  A RBI single off the bat of Tom Collaro in the third gave York a 2-0 lead.

The Ducks came right back in the home half of the third with two runs off Revolution starter Daryl Harang (2-3). Three walks and Ray Navarrete’s RBI single to left center helped the Flock tie the game at 2-2.

The score remained the same until the seventh inning.  Victor Rodriguez’ two-run single off Revolution reliever Josh Sharpless highlighted a three-run Flock attack.  Alex Prieto’s second homer of the season in the eighth provided Long Island with some insurance to make it a 6-2 ball game.

LaMura fired seven innings, yielding two runs and six hits.  The righthander retired 13 consecutive batters to close out his night.

Joe Valentine and Jason Norderum blanked York over the final two innings.  Valentine extended his scoreless innings streak to 17 as he has not allowed an earned run since April 28th.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Saturday against the York Revolution. Game time is 7:05 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 6:05 p.m.  Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Getty.   Righthander Jake Dittler takes the mound for Long Island against York’s Dave Gassner.  Fans unable to attend can tune into all the action on WNYG 1440 AM or online at www.liducks.com, with Casey Lynn and David Weiss calling the play-by-play.

Ducks Tales… Johnny Hernandez swiped his fifth stolen base of the season in the sixth inning.  Johnny now leads the Ducks in that department…The Ducks have stolen 18 bases in 2009 and been caught stealing just seven times… Starting pitcher B.J. LaMura tossed a season-high seven innings.  It was the longest outing for a Ducks’ starter since Troy Cate went seven innings on May 15th against the Camden Riversharks… Former Ducks’ starter Ken Ray made his debut for the Columbus Clippers (AAA, Indians).  Ray allowed five earned runs and 11 hits in four innings of work …Tonight’s attendance of 5,903 pushed the Ducks over 4-millionth fan plateau.  Long Island is the quickest American professional sports franchise to reach the magical 4-millionth fan mark with the stadium the size of Citibank Park (capacity 6,002).
