York Wins Another Series
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on May 28, 2009
York, PA – The York Revolution used their biggest offensive eruption of the season to claim their second straight series win, beating the Camden Riversharks 9-3 in front of 3,619 fans on Baseball in Education Day at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Wednesday. The win caps a four-game homestand, with the Revs set to take the road for the first of a six-game road trip beginning Friday night.
Tom Collaro launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to put York on top 2-0. It was his fourth homerun of the season, and third in the past week.
York starter Corey Thurman (2-2) allowed just one swinging bunt hit through the first 4.2 innings, but Camden tied the game at two with three straight two-out hits in the fifth, including a two-run triple from Wayne Lydon.
The Revs immediately struck back, however, and pulled away, giving Thurman his second win. The righty allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings, while walking only one and striking out four. He has allowed just five earned runs over 22.2 innings (1.99 ERA) in his last four starts, and improves to 4-1 all-time against Camden.
Matt Padgett and Jason Aspito drove in runs in the fifth and sixth on sacrifice flies, lifting the Revs back in front by two, and the Revs then exploded for their biggest inning of the season, plating five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Keoni DeRenne ripped a two-run double into the left field corner, extending his hitting streak to seven games, Padgett lofted another sac fly, and Matt Esquivel blasted a two-run homer to left-center to put the Revs ahead 9-2, matching their largest lead at any point of the 2009 season.
Camden trimmed one off their deficit with an eighth inning run on a sac fly from Vito Chiaravolloti.
Notes: The Revs are now 6-5 over their last 11 games, and they went 3-1 on the homestand. The road trip begins Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Long Island, with Daryl Harang taking the ball for the Revs. Fans in York can catch the action live on NEWSRADIO 910 WSBA beginning at 6 p.m., or online at YorkRevolution.com.
