Sharks Even Series with 6-3 Win
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on May 27, 2009
York, PA – The York Revolution ran into a buzzsaw trio of pitchers, losing 6-3 to the Camden Riversharks on a bone-chilling Tuesday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York. The series is now even at one win apiece, and York will aim for a series win in Wednesday morning’s rubber game on Baseball In Education Day at 11 a.m.
Also on Wednesday, Rev-o-nomics continues with $1 Hot Dogs thanks to Hatfield Quality Meats, and it is also an Amtrak Wednesday, where fans can enter a drawing for two free, round-trip tickets.
Camden dealt the first blow on Tuesday night with three unearned runs in the top of the third. After an error started the inning, Val Majewski picked up an RBI single, and Brett Bonvechio ripped a two-run double with two outs in the inning.
The Revs tied it with three in the fourth. Camden starter Tom Davey faced the minimum through three, inducing eight groundouts over the first three innings, but Keoni DeRenne opened the fourth with a bunt hit, and the floodgates opened. There were two walks, two wild pitches, and a passed ball in the inning, as the Revs plated three to tie the game.
Matt Padgett got York on the board with an RBI single to left, Ryan Goleski scored on a wild pitch, and Kennard Jones tied it with a sac fly to left.
Camden responded with a run in the fifth to retake a lead that they would not surrender, on another RBI hit by Bonvechio.
The Revs put two on to lead off the bottom of the fifth, on a single by Danny Sandoval, and another bunt hit from DeRenne, but Davey retired the next three in order, kick-starting a stretch of 15 consecutive Revolution hitters retired by Camden pitching to end the game.
Davey (4-0) retired the final six he faced, Felix Rodriguez set down all four that he encountered, and Tracey Thorpe took care of the final five batters for his fifth save. The Revs managed only four hits.
Camden pulled away with an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Jason Jacobs, and one more in the eighth on Majewski’s second RBI hit of the game.
Notes: Matt Esquivel stole second and third base in the fourth inning, and now leads the Revs with eight stolen bases in eight attempts. Corey Thurman will face Josh Brey in the rubber game on Wednesday morning.
