Pats Hold off Fish, 7-2

(Bridgeport, CT – May 26, 2009) – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots in the first game of a three-game series on Tuesday 7-2 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Bluefish were able to end the losing skid at home behind an impressive offensive performance. Ed Rogers went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Luis Rodriguez collected three hits, recording two RBI and a run scored. Tyrone Pendergrass also contributed for Bridgeport, by connecting on a two-run triple.
Bluefish starter Dan Reichert (3-4) found his groove against the Patriots as he picked up the impressive victory. The righthander allowed only one earned run on five hits and three walks, while striking out three over eight innings of work.
Jared Gothreaux (2-4) suffered the loss for the Patriots after lasting six innings and allowed seven hits, two runs, two walks, while striking out six. The Somerset offense was led by Josh Pressley who went 1-for-4 with the lone RBI for the Pats.
The Bluefish and Patriots play game two of their three game series tomorrow during a 10:35 a.m. matinee. Righthander Kyle Jackson will be on the mound for the Bluefish, and will be opposed by Patriots starter Josh Miller. Everyone in attendance will be able to experience “Winning Inning Wednesday” and have the chance to take home $10,000.
