Barnstormers Top Pats, 10-5

Bridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Somerset Patriots 11-5 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night.
Somerset took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after center fielder Sean Smith singled, shortstop Anthony Granato singled, right fielder Noah Hall walked, and first baseman Josh Pressley followed with a sacrifice fly to score Smith.
The Barnstormers evened the score 1-1 in the top of the second inning. First baseman Bryan Sabatella singled, stole second, and then scored on a base hit by left fielder Michael Campbell.
The Patriots regained the lead in the bottom of the second inning after catcher Travis Anderson walked and later scored on a double play.
Lancaster rallied to score six runs in the top of the third inning. Third baseman Lloyd Turner reached on an error, second baseman Danny Bravo singled, designated hitter Aaron Herr walked, and center fielder L.J. Biernbaum singled to plate Turner. Catcher Jed Morris followed with a three run double to score Bravo, Herr, and Biernbaum. Sabatella then walked and shortstop Amadeo Zazueta tripled home Morris and Sabatella.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the third inning after Pressley walked and later scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 7-3.
Left fielder Jon Nelson hit a solo homerun (2) in the bottom of the fourth inning for the Patriots to make the score 7-4.
The Barnstormers extended lead in the top of the seventh inning after right fielder Ryan Mulhern singled, Morris doubled, and Sabatella singled to score Mulhern. Campbell followed with an RBI single to score Morris to make the score 9-4.
Lancaster scored again in the top of the eighth inning after Herr walked, Biernbaum singled, and Mulhern doubled to score Herr for an 11-4 advantage.
The Patriots scored once in the ninth inning to make the final 11-5 after Smith doubled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Pressley.
Barnstormers reliever Ross Peeples (1-1) picked up the win, allowing two hits in 2.2 scoreless innings pitched. Patriots starting pitcher Jared Gothreaux (2-3) got the loss, allowing seven runs, four earned, on seven hits in three innings pitched.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 7:05 pm game on Thursday night against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
