York, PA – The York Revolution suffered a second straight weekend sweep to the Somerset Patriots, losing 6-1 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on a cool, windy Sunday afternoon. The struggling Revs fall to 4-16, while Somerset improves to 12-9. The game was played in front of 3,868 fans with 116 dogs also in attendance for Bark in the Park.

The Revs took an early lead for the second straight game, as Kennard Jones led off with a single, moved to second on a bunt from Keoni DeRenne, and scored on a Tom Collaro RBI single to the right field warning track in the first inning. It was the only run scored by the Revolution all afternoon, however, as the Patriots plated the game’s final six.

Somerset took the lead with two in the third. Sean Smith crossed with the first run on a passed ball, and the disputed safe call led to an ejection of manager Chris Hoiles for arguing. Jeff Nettles later sprayed an RBI single into right-center for the second run.

Smith pulled an RBI single to left in the sixth increasing the lead to 3-1, and three more came across in the ninth on a Joe Burke RBI single, and a two-run double from Nettles. It was Nettles’ second straight game with three hits and three RBI.

Jim Magrane (2-0) earned the win, allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings.

Corey Thurman (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs, only one earned, on five hits in five innings. Revs starters are now 0-13 in 2009.

Notes: Somerset’s Josh Pressley was ejected in the fifth for arguing a called third strike. The Revs have now scored just 21 runs in their last 10 games. It is the second time in team history that an opponent has swept York in consecutive series… Newark took nine straight from the Revs during the inaugural 2007 campaign. The Revs begin a seven-game road trip on Monday night in Camden at 7:05 p.m. Mike Smith will face Brian Lawrence in the series opener at Campbell’s Field. It kicks off a stretch where the Revs will play 13 of their next 17 games on the road.
