Late Bridgeport Comeback Falls Short as Revs Top ‘Fish
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on April 26, 2009
Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the York Revolution 3-2 on Sunday matinee at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Bluefish bats were silenced for most of the game until the bottom of the ninth. Adam Greenberg led off the frame with a double to spark the Bluefish rally. With one out, Luis Lopez stepped to the plate and connected on a two-run home run over the left field wall to cut the Revolution lead to one. Jesse Hoorelbeke, who went 2-for-4 on the day, followed Lopez with a base knock, but the late-inning rally fell short as Revolution closer Steve Andrade retired the next two batters.
Lefthander Corey Lee made his first professional appearance since 2006 as he took to the mound for the ‘Fish. Lee looked impressive going four and one-third innings giving up no runs, a hit, and struck out six. Esteban Yan made his second appearance for the Bluefish by pitching one and two-thirds innings, giving up no hits, no walks, and struck out one. Matt Pike’s (0-1) took the loss in his first appearance of the season. He lasted two and one-thirds innings, giving up five hits, three runs (one earned) and recorded three strikeouts.
The York pitching staff was impressive, holding the Bluefish to only two runs, both of which came off a home run in the bottom of the ninth. Righthander Corey Thurman started today for the Revs. He gave up no runs, two hits, one walk, and struck out two. Daryl Harang (2-0) followed with a shut out frame of his own to earn his second win of the season. Harang lasted two innings surrendering one hit, no runs and no walks.
The Bluefish will have a day off tomorrow before returning to action on Tuesday, with the first game of a three-game series against the Camden Riversharks. A showdown of former Major Leaguers will commence, as the Bluefish will send right-hander Dan Reichert to the mound to square off against Riversharks starter Brian Lawrence.
