Revolution To Hold “Cast Your Vote” Night
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on August 18, 2008
YORK, PA – Continuing a promotional season that has been among the most innovative and creative in minor league baseball, Friday, August 22 at Sovereign Bank Stadium is “Cast Your Vote” Night, presented by Sam Adams. The Revolution have several election season/presidential themes planned throughout the evening’s game against the Camden Riversharks. First pitch is at 7:07 p.m., and the gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
The cornerstone of the night is the fourth annual Samuel Adams Beer Lovers Choice. Fans 21 and over can partake in free beer tasting on the concourse, and vote for their favorite to help determine the next Sam Adams beer. The “candidates” are Blackberry Witbier versus Coffee Stout. Beer Lovers Choice is a national ad campaign by Sam Adams to determine their next product, and tastings are taking place at baseball stadiums and other locations throughout the country. This is the first national ad campaign the Revolution have participated in.
A ballpark election will also be included in addition to the Sam Adams event. From the first through fifth innings, fans will vote on some of the staples of Sovereign Bank Stadium, such as; favorite Revs home uniform, favorite promotion and favorite concession items. Fans will also have a hand in helping to determine next year’s promotional schedule, as they vote on such things as what bobblehead giveaway they’d like to see next, and favorite on-field entertainers. The votes will be tabulated after the fifth inning, and results will be announced before the end of the game.
The featured race is for “Best Mascot of the Susquehanna,” featuring challenger Cylo of the Lancaster Barnstormers and incumbent DownTown of the Revolution. (Early handicappers and polls have DownTown winning in a landside and retaining his seat, but the people will have their chance to officially speak on August 22.) Even members of the Revolution team will get into the act, as they cast their votes on hard-hitting topics such as “boxers or briefs” and “who has better hair, Matt Dryer or Corey Thurman?” on the Sovereign Bank Stadium video board.
Special guests scheduled to attend include a quartet of founding fathers, featuring George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and of course Sam Adams himself. The founding fathers will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitches, as well as participating in the on-field games and promotions. As a bonus to this Presidential celebration of all things democracy, party representatives will be on hand to register those who are eligible to vote. The voter registration drive will be a non-partisan event, with a goal of registering as many new voters as possible.
Upon the conclusion of the game on Friday, the Revolution will be hosting their second sleepover night of the season, and anyone can reserve tickets to the ballgame and a spot to camp out on the field overnight with a tent. The promotion is NOT targeted exclusively to scouts as was the first campout at Sovereign Bank Stadium, but scouts are certainly encouraged and welcome to attend. The sleepover night is open to all camping enthusiasts, or anyone with a tent who wants to have some fun!
A post-game movie (“The Rookie,” staring Dennis Quaid) will be shown before the lights are turned out at the stadium, and campers will receive free popcorn and a soft drink while they watch. All campers will also receive breakfast on Saturday morning, compliments of the Revolution.
