Crabs Sweep the Revs

By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on July 14, 2008

WALDORF, MD – The Blue Crabs won a wild game with their second walk-off in the past two nights, capping off a sweep of the York Revolution with an 11-10 victory. The win takes the Blue Crabs into the all-star break with a 5-1 second half record, tops in the Atlantic League.

Southern Maryland fell behind in the first inning, then maintained a 1-0 deficit until the fifth when York plated five runs to seemingly blow the game open. The home tome would persevere, but even two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame seemed to do little to help their chances.

For some unbeknownst reason, when the rain comes, so do the runs. Following a one hour and twenty-one minute rain delay (with some fireworks mixed in), the Blue Crabs offense erupted, putting up two runs in the sixth on a Chris Maples home run, then batting around to score six runs in the seventh.

The seventh inning was started by Curtis Pride smacking a single up the middle, then Patrick Osborn following suit with a single of his own. Jeremy Owens would then rip a triple to left-center, scoring both men. Three straight walks to James Shanks, Chris Maples, and Brandon Ketron would force home Owens, and a single by George Sandel would bring home another run. John Ramistella was then hit by a pitch to force home another run, giving the home team a four run lead.

York would not quit, however, as the visitors put up four runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game. The Blue Crabs, who entered the game 35-0 when leading after nine innings, would keep that streak alive, however. Ketron was beaned in the head to start off the inning, and moved to second on a perfect sacrifice bunt from Sandel. Ramistella would then single past the shortstop, and Ketron came across for the victory.

The Blue Crabs will hit the road next, taking on the Lancaster Barnstormers, with the next home game coming on the 24th against the Long Island Ducks. Blue Crabs George Sandel, Patrick Osborn, Mathew Schweitzer, Ryan Bicondoa, Curtis Pride, and Adam Shorsher will be participating in the all-star game in Somerset on Wednesday, and Crustacean Nation wishes them luck as they represent our team!
