Crabs Beat Revs, 3-2

WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs fell behind early, but came from behind thanks to some strong pitching and timely hitting to defeat the York Revolution 3-2 on Friday night.
The Blue Crabs move to 3-1 on the year, good for the early first place lead in the Liberty Division. Joe Gannon is credited with the win, his sixth of the year to only one loss. Gannon pitched seven innings, giving up zero earned runs to go along with four strikeouts.
The Revolution jumped out to a lead in the top of the second, plating two unearned runs due to an error and a passed ball. Southern Maryland would battle back, plating one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the lead.
James Shanks scored the first run for the Blue Crabs after reaching on a triple, then came across as the winning run after drawing a walk. The game-winning RBI came from catcher Brandon Ketron, who laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Shanks on the squeeze.
Clinton Johnston continued his hot streak, finishing the night 3-for-4 from the plate. Johnston has slowly been raising his average, and stood at tenth in the league coming into tonight’s game. The first baseman also stole two bases and scored a run, coming across in the sixth on a Chris Maples single. The two steals doubled Johnston’s previous career total, as he only had one steal in two attempts prior to this game.
Derrick DePriest struck out three batters in the ninth to close out the game, his thirteenth save of the year. Mathew Schweitzer also pitched a scoreless inning for the home team.
Tomorrow’s game will start at 6:35, with fireworks scheduled following the game. Lefty Keith Ramsey will take the mound for Southern Maryland, opposed by York’s Wayne Franklin.
