Blue Crabs Pound Patriots to Even Series

WALDORF, MD – Adam Johnson led the way for the Southern Maryland pitching staff, combining with Jason Blanton and Chris Gale for the second shutout in the team’s short history. The offense also exloded
Johnson, making his first home start since coming off the disabled list with an elbow injury, showed the form that made him a number two overall pick in the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. Johnson pitched five innings, giving up only three hits and zero runs.
Pitching in relief of Johnson, Jason Blanton and Chris Gale also blanked the Patriots, pitching two innings apiece to finish out the second shutout in team history. The first came when John Halama pitched a complete game versus the York Revolution on May 28th.
The Blue Crabs offense did their part, pounding the Somerset pitching staff to the tune of thirteen hits and seven runs. John Ramistella started it off, smashing a solo home run over the left field wall to lead off the fourth inning. Curtis Pride followed right behind him with a double, and reached home plate when Clinton Johnston smacked a triple down the right field line.
Adam Shorsher would hit a solo home run the very next inning to left field, nearly putting a hole in the picnic tarp with his line drive. Sandel and Ramistella would both single after Shorsher’s shot, with both crossing the plate on a double by Patrick Osborn.
Johnston would pick up his second hit of the night in the sixth inning, singling to left field to lead off the inning. James Shanks then hit the third Blue Crab homer of the game, his third since joining the Southern Maryland roster.
Sunday’s game time will be 2:05, with Jonathan Connolly taking the mound for Butch Hobson’s crew. The first 1,000 fans will receive a team baseball card set, the first for the Blue Crabs.
