By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 27, 2008

WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs head into the heart of their inaugural season home schedule with a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots at Regency Furniture Stadium this weekend. It is the second of four straight weekends the club will be home, and begins a stretch between now and the Atlantic League All-Star break in which the Blue Crabs will play 14 games in 17 days in Southern Maryland’s new ballpark.

Tickets are still available for all games by visiting www.SOMDbluecrabs.com, stopping by the stadium box office or by calling 301-638-9788.

This weekend features fireworks following the Friday and Saturday games. Friday’s 7:05 game also includes a special appearance by Reggy – The Purple Party Dude, along with a Boy Scout Sleepover. Saturday’s 6:35 game is Beach Party Night where fans are encouraged to wear their beach attire. Family Sunday FUNday begins at 2:05 p.m. and includes a baseball card set giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, pre-game Meet the Team Autograph session and post-game Kids Run the Bases.

Following a three-game road trip to Bridgeport early next week, the Blue Crabs return home for a very special Fourth of July Weekend four-game series, July 3-6 against the Camden Riversharks. Thursday, July 3 is Salute to Old Time Baseball and the Negro Leagues, in which several former Negro League legends will be on hand to sign autographs. The Friday, July 4 game will feature a spectacular holiday fireworks display following the game.

Saturday, July 5 is scheduled to be the first doubleheader in franchise history. It will be a Day-Night, separate-admission doubleheader with game one scheduled for Noon and game two slated for a 6:35 first pitch. Fireworks will follow the evening game. Both games will be nine innings and the ballpark will be cleared between games, with each game requiring a separate ticket.

The four-game series concludes with at 2:05 game on Sunday, July 6 for another Family Sunday FUNday at the ballpark, featuring PBS Character’s Day. Following an off day on Monday, July 7, the Blue Crabs wrap-up the first half of the season with six games from July 8-13, including a special 11:05 a.m. game on Thursday, July 10.

Two unique events in the Legend’s Club and Red Hot & Blue Picnic Pavilion will also take place during the Fourth of July weekend. An Independence Day Bash is being offered to all fans for the July 4 game, which includes a game ticket and all-you-can-eat picnic buffet of baby back ribs, corn on the cob, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta salad and hot apple cobbler. During the Noon game on July 5, fans can participate in one of Maryland’s greatest traditions by taking advantage of a special Crab Feast, which includes the ballgame and all-you-can-eat crabs from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
