Ducks Roast Patriots 11-0

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 11-0 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night.
The Ducks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Catcher Jamie Pogue hit a solo home run (3) to left field. First baseman Damien Rolls doubled and came around to score on an RBI single by second baseman Dennis Donovan.
Long Island added four runs in the top of the third inning. Center fielder Nook Logan singled, right fielder Ray Navarrete drew a walk, and designated hitter Carl Everett singled to load the bases. Pogue followed with a grand slam (4), his second homerun of the game, to give the Ducks a 6-0 lead.
The Ducks added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Shortstop Donaldo Mendez singled and later scored on a fielder’s choice that allowed Logan to reach safely. Navarrete then hit a two-run home run (15) to give Long Island a 9-0 advantage.
Long Island extended the lead to 11-0 with two runs scored on errors in the top of the seventh inning.
Ducks starter Randy Leek (5-2) picked up the win, allowing four hits in seven scoreless innings pitched. Patriots starter Brian Adams (4-3) suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs on ten hits in four innings pitched.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks. The game features a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Investors Savings Bank and Mets Night.
