By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 25, 2008
NEWARK, NJ – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Newark Bears 5-3 on Tuesday night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Third baseman Patrick Osborn drove in all of the Crabs’ runs, and collected five RBI on the evening.
Osborn’s first two RBI were the result of a two-run home run he hit in the first inning to quickly give the Blue Crabs a 2-0 lead.
The 2-0 score held until the fifth inning when Osborn added two more runs to the Blue Crabs’ lead. With two outs and the bases loaded, he rapped a two-RBI single to make the score 4-0.
Ramon Castro put the Bears on board in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run to make the score 4-2. The homer was his team-leading ninth of the season.
Osborn collected his fifth RBI of the game in the seventh inning with a shallow right field single to score George Sandel and make the score 5-2.
The Bears tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth on a Cory Aldridge RBI double, cutting the Blue Crabs’ lead to 5-3.
Jonathan Connolly (1-1) picked up the win, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on four hits. Franklin Gracesqui (0-2) absorbed the loss, giving up four runs and six hits in five innings. Derrick DePriest earned his ninth save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning. None of the Blue Crabs’ pitchers allowed a walk during the game.
