Kevin Kotch Traded To Lancaster
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 25, 2008
YORK, PA – York Revolution Director of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone has announced that catcher/first baseman Kevin Kotch has been traded to the Lancaster Barnstormers. The Revolution will receive cash and future considerations in return.
Added to the Revolution roster in the pre-season by Gladstone and Manager Chris Hoiles as a backup catcher, Kotch saw most of his game action at first base and designated hitter. In 19 games this season, Kotch batted .150 (6-40), with a double, home run and three RBI. He also walked three times and scored five runs.
Prior to 2008, Kotch played three seasons in the Baltimore Orioles organization. He spent the 2006 season with the Ripken owned Aberdeen Ironbirds of the Class A New York-Penn League, and 2004 and 2005 with the Bluefield Orioles of the Rookie level Appalachian League.
The 23-year-old was originally drafted out of Middlesex (NJ) High School in the 40th round of the 2002 draft by the Atlanta Braves. After electing to play collegiate baseball instead at Cecil Community College (MD), Kotch was drafted two years later by the Orioles in the 26th round of the 2004 draft. At 6’4”, 235 pounds, Kotch provides a solid frame and big target behind the plate for pitchers.
The move comes on the heels of Lancaster losing catcher/designated hitter Lance Burkhart for an estimated six weeks, after Burkhart broke his wrist in a collision in the Barnstormers’ June 24 game at home against Camden.
The York Revolution Professional Baseball Club is a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Sovereign Bank Stadium, located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way, York, PA 17401. For more information, please call 717-801-HITS (4487), or visit the Revolution online at www.YorkRevolution.com.
