Ducks Battle Past Patriots 7-6 In Ten Innings

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-6 in ten innings at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Tuesday night. Long Island broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the tenth inning when third baseman Pete Maestrales singled and later scored on a game-winning RBI single by left fielder Alex Sanchez.

Somerset tied up the game 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning on a solo home run by third baseman Brandon Larson (10).

The Ducks broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Shortstop Dennis Donovan doubled and scored on an RBI double by second baseman Ray Navarrete for a 6-5 lead.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Somerset rallied to tie up the game at 5-5. Left fielder Matt Hagen doubled and scored on a two-run home run by right fielder Ryan Radmanovich (3).

The Ducks rallied to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth inning. Designated hitter Carl Everett singled and was pinch run for by Donaldo Mendez. Right fielder Jay Gibbons followed with an RBI double and later scored on a fielder’s choice for a 5-3 advantage.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Navarrete singled and scored on an RBI single by Everett.

Somerset answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by center fielder Sean Smith (4).

Long Island regained the lead with a run in the top of the third inning. Center fielder Nook Logan tripled and scored on an RBI single by Sanchez.

The Patriots made it a 3-2 game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Larson singled and scored on a two-run home run by first baseman Josh Pressley (9), his fifth straight game with a home run.

The Ducks tied up the game in the top of the fifth inning. Sanchez singled and scored on an RBI double by Everett for a 3-3 tie.

Ducks reliever Joe Valentine (3-1) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on three hits in two innings pitched. Patriots reliever Brock Till (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on two hits in an inning pitched.

The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Ballpark History Card Strip courtesy of DeVry University.
