Crabs Bite Bears Again, 7-1
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 25, 2008
NEWARK, NJ – Seven unanswered runs by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs paved the way to a 7-1 win over the Newark Bears at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Keith Reed created the only Bears run of the game with a solo home run over the centerfield wall in the second inning. It was his sixth of the year and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Crabs tied the score in the fifth on an Eric Crozier solo home run and then took a 3-1 lead in the sixth with a two-run homer by Curtis Pride.
The Crabs added 2 more runs to increase their lead to 4-1 in the eighth inning. Pride led off the inning with a double and later scored on a long outfield single by Pat Osborn. Osborn then scored on an error by shortstop Ramon Castro.
Osborn rapped a two-RBI single in the top of the ninth to extend the score to 7-1.
Keith Ramsey (1-2) took the win for the Blue Crabs, allowing just one run and three hits over seven innings of work. Despite a solid pitching performance, Bears starter Jose Garcia (2-2) picked up the loss, lasting seven innings and giving up three runs on five hits. He also walked two and struck out five.
The Bear end their series against the Blue Crabs tomorrow morning with an 11:05 game. Pat Stanley (6-1) will take the mound for the Bears, facing Joe Gannon (3-0). For great seats to this or any other Bears home game, call 1-866-55-4BEAR or visit the Bears’ website www.newarkbears.com.
