Cold Crab Means Stormer Win
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on June 23, 2008
WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs continued their cold hitting, falling for the third time this weekend to the Lancaster Barnstormers by a score of 6-2.
The Blue Crabs had hit .222 for the series coming into the game, and could only muster five hits on the day versus starter Eric Ackerman. Ackerman had entered the game with a 1-4 record, but picked up the win for the visitors.
John Ramistella was the exception to the rules, picking up two hits, a run batted in, and also scored a run. Although his pink bat was cracked in the third inning, Ramistella roped his ninth double of the season in his very next at bat. Aside from Ramistella, the rest of the team combined to go 3-for-29.
Starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa pitched well, but takes the loss to fall to 6-4. The righty went six and two-thirds inning while giving up four earned runs, although six total runs crossed the plate while he was on the mound.
The bullpen has started to show some depth, as Chris Gale, Jason Pearson, and Mike Gibbs combined to give up zero runs and only one hit over two and a third innings of work. Gibbs was impressive in the ninth, striking out two batters for the second consecutive night in one inning.
The Blue Crabs will now travel to Newark for four games, before returning home to face Somerset in a weekend series. The Waldorf skies will again be lit up this weekend, as both Friday and Saturday’s games will feature fireworks following the contest.
