Big Weekend Planned in Southern Maryland
By Atlantic League Independent Wire Services on May 30, 2008
A big weekend lies ahead at Regency Furniture Stadium as the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs continue their seven-game homestand thru Sunday. Tickets are still available for all games by visiting www.SOMDbluecrabs.com, stopping by the stadium box office or by calling 301-638-9788.
“This promises to be a great weekend in Crustacean Nation,” said General Manager Mark Viniard. “We have a little something for everybody, and it looks like we are going to be blessed with great weather. It is going to be an exciting weekend of Blue Crabs baseball and we are looking forward to welcoming new and old fans to the ballpark.”
Friday’s 7:05 series opener against the Long Island Ducks features a post-game fireworks show, NASCAR Night and Girl Scout Sleepover. Also on Friday, the Blue Crabs will officially open the Crabby Cove Bumper Boat Pond. The attraction features 10, six-foot bumper boats equipped with water cannons that can each carry up to three passengers. The pond itself is 2,400 square feet and contains nearly 54,000 gallons with a waterfall hazard for riders. Each boat can accommodate adults and children six years of age or older. Younger children will be required to ride with an adult. Children shorter than the three-foot deep pool will also be required to wear a life jacket. Bumper boat rides will be $3.
As part of NASCAR Night, two club seats for the Bank of America 500 on October 11 at Lowes Motor Speedway in Charlotte will be given away to a lucky fan. After the fireworks display, Girl Scouts will spend the night under the stars of Regency Furniture Stadium.
Saturday’s 6:35 game is Women Who Rock/Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and also includes post-game fireworks. In honor of breast cancer survivors, the Blue Crabs will be wearing pink caps and using pink bats during the first three innings of the game. A silent auction will take place during the game for the caps and bats, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research Fund. Following the game, silent auction winners will be invited down to the field to have their items autographed by a Blue Crabs player. The first 1,500 fans thru the gates will receive a pink ribbon in support of breast cancer awareness.
The homestand ends with a 2:05 game on Family Sunday FUNday, featuring a pre-game autograph session and post-game Kids Run the Bases. It is also Disney Day at the ballpark, where young fans are encouraged to dress up like their favorite Disney character. There will also be special appearances by Snow White and Cinderella to help close out the homestand.
The Blue Crabs have also announced a new, weekend-only ticket package. The 10-game package is only $120/seat and includes the choice of all remaining Friday, Saturday or Sunday home games, plus the final game of the season on September 17. Fans that purchase this special ticket package by the end of the weekend receive a FREE T-shirt. The Weekend Package Spectacular can be purchased at the ballpark, or by calling 301-638-9788.
