Patriots Score Four In Eighth To Win 6-5

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset Patriots defeated the Camden Riversharks 6-5 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.
The Patriots rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning. Center fielder Elliott Ayala walked, stole second, and later scored on third baseman Brandon Larson’s RBI single. Designated hitter Josh Pressley then singled, first baseman Vito Charavalotti walked, and all three runners scored on catcher Jason Belcher’s game-winning three run double to take the lead 6-4.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Left fielder Michael Ryan doubled and scored on Larson’s RBI double.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ryan doubled and later scored on an RBI ground out by Pressley to make the score 2-0.
Camden got on the board and took the lead with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Second baseman Richard Lewis doubled, first baseman Ron Davenport singled, and designated hitter Randy McGarvey singled home Lewis. Centerfielder Nic Jackson followed with a three run home run (1) to give the Riversharks a 4-2 lead.
Camden added a run in the top of the ninth inning for the 6-5 final. Patriots reliever Frank Brooks (3-2) picked up the win with a scoreless 0.2 innings pitched. Camden reliever Buddy Hernandez (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched. Bret Prinz earned his league leading 11th save of the season for Somerset.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home with an 11:05 am game against the Camden Riversharks on Wednesday afternoon.
